I joined the School of Medicine at Kyungpook National University in September 2024 as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry. I received my PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Hanyang University in 2020, my MS in Medicine from Yonsei University in 2011, and my BS in Pre-Medicine from Kosin University in 2003. Before joining KNU, I served as a Clinical Professor at Chonnam National University Hospital and Pusan National University Yangsan Hospital. I also held clinical and research positions at Seoul National University Hospital, including Clinical Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry, Senior Researcher at the Institute of Human Behavioral Medicine, and Research Professor at the Biomedical Research Institute. My research focuses on identifying predictors of clinical transition in individuals presenting with attenuated or subthreshold psychiatric symptoms, with particular emphasis on elucidating the neurobiological and computational mechanisms underlying the progressive distortion and pathologization of thought and perception.

Researcher

  • Jiseon Jang MD, PhD

I received my MD from Yeungnam University College of Medicine in 2019 and obtained a PhD in Psychiatry in 2023. I completed my residency training in the Department of Psychiatry at Yeungnam University Hospital in 2024. I then worked as a clinical fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at Seoul National University Hospital. I joined the Department of Psychiatry at Kyungpook National University Hospital as a Clinical Professor in March 2026.

Students

  • Ido Ji PhD Candidate

I majored in statistics and am particularly interested in developing new statistical modeling approaches in neuroscience. I aim to build integrative Bayesian models that can analyze not only brain imaging data but also omics and microbiome data simultaneously, with the hope of making a practical contribution to the treatment and prognosis of patients with neuropsychiatric disorders. Academically, I am fascinated by theoretical statistics and real analysis, and I am also deeply interested in exploring the intersection between science and the humanities.

  • Si Yun Song MS Candidate

I majored in both Clinical Pathology and Computer Science to build a unique foundation for medical AI. By engaging in active research alongside my studies, I aim to grow into a Data Scientist equipped with deep clinical insights and computational expertise.

  • Yeweon Jung MS Candidate

I holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Yeungnam University. My internship at the College of Pharmacy sparked a deep interest in the interaction between drugs and the nervous system. I am particularly drawn to data science for its capability to quantify and analyze disease-related drug mechanisms. My ultimate goal is to become a researcher who contributes to therapeutic strategies for brain disorders by establishing a comprehensive, data-driven understanding of drug-neural interactions.

Clinical Research Coordinator

  • Myungji Ha

I graduated from Keimyung University College of Nursing and began my career at Seoul National University Hospital, where I cared for patients in the Neurosurgery ward. Later, I expanded my clinical expertise as an anesthesia nurse at Keimyung University Dongsan Hospital, focusing on pre- and post-operative care. Currently, I am applying my clinical background to research as a Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) in the Department of Psychiatry at Kyungpook National University Hospital.

Internship

  • Sumin Jeon

I am currently studying Psychology and Health Science in the Bachelor of Science program at the University of Toronto. My interest in neuroscience and mental health developed through laboratory experiences during high school, which led me to become deeply interested in the biological basis of brain function and psychiatric disorders. I am particularly interested in understanding the mechanisms, causes, and treatment of mental illness. My goal is to further explore this field through research and eventually become a psychiatrist who can contribute to the field through both clinical practice and scientific research.
